NecronomiCon Providence is a many-faceted convention exploring the life and works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and fellow writers of Weird Tales, past and present.
Our theme is The Rational and the Supernatural – an exploration of the intersection of science and art that lays at the foundation of the “Cthulhu Mythos” genre.
A true community effort – brought to you by the Lovecraft Arts & Sciences Council, and Dark Dunes Productions, in collaboration with MANY in Providence and beyond – including WaterFire, the Rhode Island Historical Society, and the City of Providence itself! We seek to pay a nuanced homage to The Old Gentleman of Providence and his literary offspring, including numerous activities to highlight the town HPL loved and called home – PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island.
August 22nd-25th, 2013 – with events happening all the week prior (venues: The Providence Biltmore & Others. Click for more info)
Subjects to be explored over a three-day event:
- Literature – Horror, Sci-Fi, Mythology, Weird Tales of all sorts…
- Science and Exploration – Astronomy, Archaeology, Biology…
- History – Primordial, Pre-Colombian, Colonial, 1920s…
- Culture – Art, Cinema, Theater, Music, Poetry, Food, Nightlife…
Given the remarkable feedback we’ve received, we estimate this will easily be the largest gathering of Lovecraft devotees ever.
Plans are set for this long-overdue Rite for Providence’s own begotten. After more than a decade since it last drew breath, the essential salts have been gathered once more. We now resurrect the memories of the Great Old Ones before us, and begin the next chapter of the NecronomiCon. August, 2013…
The Stars Are Right… again!
Keep an eye out for regular updates on speakers, guests, games (oh, yes, there’ll be games), and many other details.
In the meantime – Keep Dreaming!
