Note: All film screenings and theatrical events are free to all pass holders, including the Dunwich Horror Picture Show Sunday night (note, this event is outside at the Red Door, 49 Peck Street, 02903). All screenings will be open to the general public for a separate all-day ticket price.

Along with so many other events taking place as part of NecronomiCon, we’re excited to again feature a great array of selected films and shorts – combining some of our own faves, old and new, and some from our friends and co-conspirators at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Fest in Portland Oregon.

Thursday, August 13

7:00pm – 8:30pm – Short Films Block 1 – Cosmic horror & Weird shorts from around the world!

Creature of the Deep (US) dir. Angus Reardon – A college student’s family brings her to meet a reclusive uncle.
Furka (Russia) dir. Michel Kessler & David Oesch – A silent glacier. A vanished signal. Something rises from the ice.   
The Hound (Serbia) dir. Mihajlo Dragaš – Two decadent grave robbers, obsessed with death and forbidden relics, steal an amulet from an ancient tomb.

Grýlu Sker (US) dir. Kevin McTurk – Shipwrecked off the coast of Iceland, an explorer must fight for survival on a desolate island.
Favela Amarela (Brazil) Nícolas Lobato, Thiago Tuchu – During a night shift, Damião spots hooded figures sneaking through the forest toward a church, uncovering rituals devoted to the King in Yellow.
Feed The Dark (US) dir. Rob Himebaugh – A snowbound ski patroller is stalked by a ravenous demon.

Q&A with Writer/Director GoH Philip Gelatt. Two scientists with romantic history investigate unnatural animal behavior on the site of a cult compound. Based on the short story, 30, by Laird Barron.

10:00pm – Midnight – Late Night Lovecraft featuring Frogman Returns

This zany tradition showcases gooey, slightly adult, & outright insanity-inducing short films, plus the monster-ful & bonkers sequel to cult classic Frogman!
Tasty Encounters (Austria) dir. Luke Röber – In desperation, a hungry man orders a pizza that seems to be out of this world.
The Candle (US) dir. Ren Ariel Sano – Have your cake…and it eats you.
Trevor Lies (US) dir. Joe Pellegrino – The bizarre tale of a young boy and his puritanical family.
Frogman Returns (US) dir. Anthony Cousins – Frogman is back and this time he brought friends.

2:30pm – 4:15pm – The Cosmic Horror of Nigel Kneale: The Stone Tape (1972)

Intro &  presentation. Nigel Kneale was responsible for the most mind-bending cosmic horror on the BBC, including the Quatermass film series, but this rare TV movie is his most frighteningly Lovecraftian.

4:30pm – 6:30pm – The Spine of Night (2021)

Q&A w/Philip Gelatt. Animated dark fantasy with Lucy Lawless, Richard Grant, & Patton Oswalt, set in a land of magic that follows heroes from different eras & cultures battling against a malevolent cosmic force.

What do love, mortality, and synthetic lifeforms have to do with cosmic horror? Find out with these dark science fiction shorts written for TV by Philip Gelatt.
