Please note: Many events are open to the General Public (as noted below). Otherwise, most events require a convention pass. All event and program rooms have limited capacity as set by the Fire Marshal. Even though your pass is needed to get into most events, it does not guarantee you access if safe capacity has previously been reached. We can not clear rooms between events.

WEDNESDAY – August 19
TBA – Opening Reception of Lovecraft Collection – John Hay Library, Brown University OPEN TO GENERAL PUBLIC
The John Hay Library, guardians of the world’s largest collection of Lovecraft manuscripts and letters, is about to unveil a brand-new extensive display of this collection. Plans are to have an official opening for this new exhibit this evening. Details still being finalized.
6pm to midnight – “Hiding Under the Covers” NecronomiCon welcome party – Aurora, 276 Westminster Street, Providence 02903 OPEN TO GENERAL PUBLIC ($5, free before 9pm)
A welcoming party for NecronomiCon hosted by local writing community Frequency and creative venue Aurora. Local authors will read weird fiction, followed by an open mic where attendees are encouraged to share their own pieces, covers, and fan fiction. Any and all arriving early for the convention are invited to come and take part or just have a drink and listen. The reading will be followed by unique performances by bands Phemale, Br’er, LVMMVX and others. $5 cover after 9pm for late arrivals. Special Guests of Honor, including Ramsey Campbell, Leslie Klinger and Poet Laureate Ann Schwader, will welcome attendees and officially commemorate Lovecraft’s anniversary in this historic Providence landmark. Barnaby Evans, executive director of WaterFire, will emcee, and internationally renowned organist Gigi Mitchell-Velasco will once again dazzle us with a perfect musical accompaniment to the ceremony.
6:30 to 9pm – Ars Necronomica Art Exhibition, Opening Reception – Providence Art Club, 9 Thomas Street 02903 OPEN TO GENERAL PUBLIC (free)
The official reception for the Providence Art Club portion of the overall exhibition. The gallery will be open all day, and other days of the convention, so you won’t have to worry about missing this remarkable exhibition of world-class Lovecraft-inspired art. Additionally, don’t forget to view the special print exhibition at Julians (318 Broadway 02903).
6:30 to 7:30pm – “The Sacrifice of Randolph Carter,” performed by David Neilsen – Garden Room, Biltmore 2nd Floor OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC ($5 for public)
This original, one-man performance combines two of Lovecraft’s most beloved stories, “The Statement of Randolph Carter” and “From Beyond,” into a single, horrifying narrative. Actor/storyteller David Neilsen, as the title character Randolph Carter, welcomes the audience to a meeting of like-minded intellectuals to explain the terrifying ramifications of a series of inadvisable explorations into forgotten knowledge.
7:30 to 8:45pm – “The Shadow over Innsmouth,” Dark Adventure Radio Theater – Garden Room, Biltmore 2nd Floor OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC ($5 for public)
The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society presents a special live presentation of its Dark Adventure Radio Theatre – “The Shadow Over Innsmouth.” This live show features an ensemble of actors, thrilling music and sound effects and delightful opportunities for audience participation.
7:00pm to Midnight! – A very special outdoor celebration of Lovecraft’s birthday and “125 Years of Weird” in Providence – Facade Lot, 35 Weybosset St. 02903 OPEN TO GENERAL PUBLIC (free)
Kicking off the 125th in grand style, we’ve got some special outdoor events planned, including a concert featuring local act Alec K. Redfearn & the Eyesores (who gave a legendary performance at 2013’s Eldritch Ball), local musical monstrosities Big Nazo Intergalactic Band, a Frank Difficult music/video/mashup, and a 10th Anniversary screening of HPLHS’s Call of Cthulhu silent film. There will be a beer garden with plenty of Narragansett Beers (including the very last of the Lovecraft Honey Ale, and plenty of the Olde Innsmouth Ale), and a very fitting carnival fire pit roast to feed your cultist belly. The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society presents a live premiere performance of its Dark Adventure Radio Theatre – “Dagon: War of Worlds.” An ensemble of voice actors, brave musicians and fearless foley artists collude to present this bold adaptation of one of HPL’s most cherished short stories for the first time. Join Helen and Paul Maclean of Yog-Sothoth.com as they host this special Lovecraftian edition of QuizziQal, the fun fan culture quiz show from YSDC. This will be followed by a “Yog Meet” for site members (which may segue over to the nearby McCormick & Schmick’s bar). We look forward to seeing you there!
9:00 to Midnight-ish – ELDRITCH BALL – Biltmore Grand Ballroom, 17th floor
The return of the Eldritch Ball, with a very unique theme — Beyond the Mountains of Madness! Sure to be a night of epic adventure you won’t soon be able to forget! The ball is a fancy-dress, costume, masquerade, cosplay, semi-formal affair of Cyclopean scale. OPEN TO GENERAL PUBLIC ($30/ticket)
Tickets available HERE. The ticket cost for convention pass holders (including off-duty minions) is $22.50 advance / $25 at the door, and includes two drink tickets (21+ ID required for alcohol). The cost for limited number of general public tickets is $30 advance / $35 at the door. Sorry, only Golden Key and Guests of Honor get in free. Our pal, Pete Rawlik, is a trivia master. Fortunately for you, you don’t have to compete against a team he’s on. Unfortunately, you have to compete against HIM. Pete pulls together a great collection of Lovecraft-related trivia, some fairly easy, some hard enough to even make S.T. Joshi whimper. Good news is we’re putting this on in a bar! So come lubricate your brain (Pete accepts whiskey bribes, by the way), and put it to work at the same time.
9:00 to 10:30pm – Necronomicon TV show live script reading – Black Box Theater, 95 Empire St. OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ($5 for public)
A live reading of the pilot to a new TV show currently being pitched! Read by a select cast, this show is largely set in Providence, and promises to be a truly breakthrough show of eldritch proportions. Come listen in and share your thoughts with the writers and crew.

The boys from the H. P. Lovecraft Historical Society bring their finest singing voices, and expect you to croak and bleat along with all your favorite hits, such as Innsmouth Girls, Old Captain Obed, and everyone’s favorite – The Devil Reef Chanty! The boys are planning some extra special prizes for participation, so be sure to shamble on over for this fun time following Rawlik’s trivia hour.

Wrapping up NecronomiCon Providence this year, Story Laboratory is Providence’s newest monthly storytelling showcase at Aurora featuring some of the city’s best and brightest. Come watch them tell their tales from 8 o’clock until ten – the theme: “Truth, Weirder than Fiction.” Then stay afterwards for cocktails and music in the Vinyl Lounge presented by Analog Underground.
