The Prologue – related events prior to NecronomiCon-Providence 2013:
March, 2013 – Coinciding with the anniversary of Lovecraft’s death, we are working closely with our friends in the Providence Lovecraftian community to shape a series of commemorative events. We also hope to schedule a screening or two of some Lovecaft-based movies, hosted by our brothers in the Arkham Film Society – announcements to follow.
Mar. 17th – Lovecraft’s death date – plans TBA
Mar. 21st – Rhode Island Historical Society (RIHS) is hosting a talk “H.P. Lovecraft’s ‘Gods’: Atheism and the Cthulhu Mythos” as part of their Faith and Freedom lecture series.
Mar. 24th – RIHS follows on the lecture night, with a historical walking tour of Lovecraft’s old haunts along the east side of Providence.
April 7th – A special memorial service will be held on the grounds of the Ladd Observatory on the east side of Providence – details TBA.
AUGUST, 2013 – Think of it as the ‘Month of Lovecraft’ here in Providence.
To set the mood, the beginning of the month will bear witness to the debut of a truly ground-breaking art exhibition, staged at a few different venues around the city.
August 17-18, we proudly ally ourselves with Arkham Film Society’s horror film festival, which will fittingly feature a number of Lovecraft-inspired movies.
August 20th – LOVECRAFT’S 123rd BIRTHDAY! Special plans in the works for events around the city. The entire week leading to the convention will feature special-edition guided walks by the Rhode Island Historical Society.
August 22nd – as the stars finally come into their proper alignment, the eve’ of NecronomiCon-Providence will be heralded by numerous stunning events and activities around the city, including official convention art openings, film screenings, special walking tours guided by prominent Lovecraftians, and a very unique convention-eve Keynote address. NECRONOMICON-PROVIDENCE, August 23-25 2013:
Friday – 10am-5pm – panels, talks, and workshops are scheduled to run all day, at both the historic Biltmore and Hotel Providence, and a couple nearby venues. Plans then go well into the night for numerous city-wide festivities, including film screenings in some really unique spots, music at local clubs, and gaming at the Hotel Providence.
Saturday – 9am-5pm – more panels, talks, and workshops all day, etc, etc. and some VERY big plans for one of the most memorable nights in Lovecraft’s Providence imaginable. We can’t tell the secret just yet, but you won’t ever forget this night.
Sunday – 8am- 3 or 4pm – We kick off the final day of the convention with the Cthulhu Prayer Breakfast (sorry – limited seating!) from 8am-10am, and have more panels and talks beginning at 9am running for most of the day, but probably starting to wind down at 3pm, so that folks can begin to make the trek homeward.
Then… start planning for the next pilgrimage?
