The Convention’s official Ball, Friday night, August 23rd, 9pm

Our official convention costume/masquerade/fancy-dress soiree, The ELDRITCH BALL, is Friday night at 9pm, in the opulent Grand Ballroom of the Biltmore Hotel. This night will feature the music of acclaimed Providence band, Alec Redfern and the Eyesores, and special guest MCs and spooky theatrics by the Phantom Creep Theater and Silver Scream Spookshow.

Alec K. Redfearn and the Eyesores have been surprising audiences with their hypnotic, gently explosive rock music for more than a decade. Stomping Gypsy rhythms collide with Appalachian dirges, Kraut rock, modern minimalism, Irish fiddles, chiming German glockenspiels, and subtle multilayered percussion, to suggest the soundtrack for a séance or a dark science fiction epic. By using an unusual mix of electric and acoustic instrumentation, including stand up bass, accordion, French horn, percussion, doumbek, organ, and electronics, The Eyesores subvert the conventions of pop music to create rock music that is at once truly visionary, and a genuinely alternative Americana.

Spook shows are a virtually forgotten branch of golden era horror history. Atlanta’s Silver Scream Spook Show and Coney Island’s Phantom Creep Theatre will combine forces to bring their thrills and chills to Lovecraft’s hoary city. NecronomiCon Providence will host the first pairing of these two titans of terror! There will be segments of complete and utter darkness. You will feel abject horror the likes of which have not been experienced by anyone alive today! Will a doorway to unseen worlds open at the Biltmore Hotel? Will ancient beings existing beyond good and evil awaken after unfathomable aeons?! It is said: Man fears time, but time will prove to only fear the happenings at the Eldritch Ball!

WaterFire co-presents a stellar outdoor concert on Steeple Street adjacent to Waterplace park, starting Saturday night soon after the start of that night’s WaterFire festivities. Headlining are the bands Darkest of the Hillside Thickets, from Vancouver BC, and Providence’s own Big Nazo Creature Band! Several other special acts will be joining them, including The Difference Engine from Boston. This is a FREE show, and a destined to be a truly memorable one!
